Conflictos entre grupos, y el Buen Pastor

¡Yo tengo un sueño! Bueno, en realidad, es mejor decir que tengo una visión. Y es la visión que San Juan tenía hace tantos siglos, que hemos oído en la segunda lectura:

Yo, Juan, vi una muchedumbre tan grande, que nadie podía contarla. Eran individuos de todas las naciones y razas, do todos los pueblos y lenguas. Todos estaban de pie, delante del trono y del Cordero; iban vestidos con una túnica blanca; llevaban palmas en las manos y exclamaban con voz poderosa: “¡La salvación viene de nuestro Dios, que está sentado en el trono, y del Cordero!”

Es una imagen gloriosa, ¿no? Es lo que anhelamos, ¿no?—esta paz, esta armonía y amor entre todas las personas—y que sentimos debe de ser posible, de alguna manera. Y quizá lo anhelamos aún más durante un tiempo como la semana pasada, cuando las noticias nos han recordado otra vez de las divisiones y luchas entre los pueblos.

I have a dream! Well, actually, it’s more of a vision. It’s the vision that St. John had so many centuries ago, which we heard in the second reading:

I, John, had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation comes from our God, who is seated on the throne, and from the Lamb.”

Isn’t this a glorious picture? Isn’t this what we long for—this peace, this harmony and love between all people—and that we sense must be possible somehow? And perhaps we long for it all the more during a time like this past week, when the news has so often reminded us again of the divisions and struggles between peoples.
