John 12:12-16

Once again we begin Holy Week as we always do: with a joyful procession with palm branches. For so the first Holy Week began on that first Palm Sunday so many years ago: with cloaks and palm branches spread on the road, and palm branches held high, in welcome for the king!

The king, the Son of the great King David, the Messiah, the King of Israel had arrived in Jerusalem! With what joy the crowd welcomed our Lord Jesus! With what hope! (more…)

En la Procesión con Ramos
Jn 12,12-16

Así empezamos la Semana Santa como siempre: en procesión gozosa con ramos. Porque así empezó la primera Semana Santa hace tantos siglos: con mantos y ramas en el camino, y ramas arriba, ¡para dar la bienvenida al rey!

¡El rey, el Hijo del gran Rey David, el Mesías! ¡Había llegado en su capital Jerusalén—y ahora todo cambiaría! ¡Qué alegría! ¡Qué esperanza! “¡Hosanna!”

El muchedumbre dio la bienvenida a un rey, y toda la ciudad se conmovió y decían, “¿Quién es éste?” (Mt 21, 10) Y convino que preguntaban. Quizá unos notaron que este rey no montaba a un caballo de guerra, para conquistar por la violencia; sino a un burrito, porque quiso ganar nuestros corazones. (more…)

What anticipation there must have been in the crowd on that Sunday, entering Jerusalem! What excitement! Like all the People of Israel, they longed to be liberated from the rule of the Roman Empire. They looked forward to the day when the Holy Land would again be completely devoted to the Lord. And they prayed, asking the Lord to send his Messiah—his Anointed One, the long-awaited descendant of the great King David—to save them.

And now, it seemed, perhaps it was all beginning to happen. At last! They cried: “Hosanna!” (more…)
