II Domingo de Pascua, Año C: 7 Abril 2013
Hch 5, 12-16; Sal 117; Ap 1, 9-13.17-19; Jn 20, 19-31

2nd Sunday of Easter, Year C: April 7, 2013
Acts 5:12-16; Ps 118; Rev 1:9-13, 17-19; John 20:19-31

But how much things had changed by the time of our first reading, which was probably just several months later. (more…)

John the Baptist is one of the great figures of the Advent season. For during this season we look toward Christ’s Second Coming; and who better to help us prepare for that than John the Baptist, who helped the people of the first century prepare for Christ’s first coming. And how did he do that? He preached repentance—change; a turning away from sinful thoughts and attitudes and actions inside and sinful actions outside—to prepare the way of the Lord.

But it wasn’t just in his words and his action of baptizing that John prepared for the Lord. He also did so by who he was. (more…)

Our Lord Jesus Christ the King, Year A: Nov. 20, 2011
Ezek 34:11-12, 15-17; Ps 23; 1 Cor 15:20-26, 28; Matt 25:31-46

For the Secular Discalced Carmelite (OCDS) Community of Frederick Md. at its semiannual Profession Mass.

Each year, the Church gives us this Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, as the final Sunday of the liturgical year. And this is fitting, Pope Pius XI wrote when he instituted it in 1925, because the feast thus “sets the crowning glory upon the mysteries of the life of Christ already commemorated during the year.” (Quas primas, 29)

And, by establishing this feast, he hoped to reverse the trend of people excluding Christ and his law from both the public and private lives. (more…)
